Business and IT Process Modeling involves developing visual representations of business processes using Unified Modeling Language (UML).

If your technology deliverables are off the mark, it may be more an issue of communication than it is of intellect. The reality is that most firms cite a sizable communication gap between business groups and their technology counterparts, and it's no wonder! The day to day semantics of business teams differ greatly from the lingo of IT development teams. Together, they need a common language to understand and be understood.

While UML had its origins in software design, PAGE, Inc. has found that it is a universal language. It has often been said that "pictures are worth a thousand words." and that's what UML is.  Pictures!  After a quick overview, UML is easily understood by individuals in both IT and business domains.

UML documentation provides a visual representation of how IT integrates with business processes. People gain an increased understanding of existing relationships and systems. Prototyping proposed initiatives in UML provides clarity for critical success factors. UML documents are tools management teams on both sides of the fence can use to evaluate project portfolio priorities and iterative schedules for any given project or across the enterprise.

This kind of enhanced communication can address a number of costly risks, including: employee aversion to change; implementation strategy; stakeholder involvement; implementation process; establishment of success metrics; lack of buy-in from management and/or the team; customer satisfaction; and return-on-investment

Clients who have worked with PAGE, Inc. Business Modeling have:

  • Appreciated the common blueprint for systems and processes that UML provides.
  • Found that their operations have become more agile and adaptable due to clarification of definitions, activities, roles, and responsibilities.
  • Benefited from a common vision, which has led to repeatability and predictability for ongoing operations.
